University Party Sweeps Elections

 

          The University Party swept to a complete victory at the polls yesterday, winning every contest in which it had a candidate, bowling over the rival Students' Party with the smooth precision of a jet fighter. The Students' Party gained the office of secretary-treasurer when its cndidate, Basil Miragliotta, was left in the field without an opponent when Bob Huff was disqualified.

 

          Emmett Fontaine, fourth year student, pulled 1072 votes against 890 for Joe Noertker to win the presidency. Fontaine is now vice president of the College, president of Student Union for two terms, past president of the German Society, and a member of the governing board of the IFC, Kappa Alpha Order, Skull and Keys, and TILKA.

 

          Churchill Young, third year student, defeated Mike Mauxtellar for College vice president, 1012 to 931. Business manager of Corks & Curls, Young is varsity football manager, vice president of P-K society, and a member of Phi Kappa Sigma social fraternity, Pi Delta Epsilon journalistic fraternity, "13" society, "Z" socety, Eli Banana, and Lambda Pi.

 

          Basil Miragliotta, third year student, won an unopposed election for secretary-treasurer. A member of Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity, he is vice president of the Newman club and has been on the varsity boxing team for three years. Last year he was EIBA champion at 145 pounds.

 

          Whitey Michaels, third year student, polled 1130 votes to defeat Charles Revilla with 816 for historian. Michaels, at present a member of the student council, has been on the varsity football team for three years. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity, "Z" society, P-K society, and TILKA.

 

          In the elections for student council, Tom Phillips led the field with 1185 votes. Third year student, he is a member of Kappa Sigma social fraternity, TILKA, and the varsity baseball team.

 

          Charlie Mott, vice president of the V club, polled 1085 votes for second place on the council. He is a letterman in football and track nd a member of German club, "Z," TILKA, and Delta Kappa Epsilon social fraternity.

 

          Henry Valentine, fourth year student, was third in council votes with 1048. He is a member of IMP, Eli Banana, P-K society, the V club, and St. Anthony hall.

 

          Paul Hicks was fourth man elected to the council, with 1031 votes. President of the intramural council, he is a member of the student advisory council, German club, IMP, TILKA, Zeta Psi social fraternity, and Lambda Pi, of which he is secretary.

 

          Students' Party candidates were Billl McFarlane, 872; Bill Mallonee, 864; James Myatt, 831; and Al Morris, 820.
