Maryville/Alcoa Jaycees raise bar with fifth
powerlifting competition
The Maryville/Alcoa Jaycees held the fifth annual POWER PARTNERS
Special Olympics Powerlifting Competition and Fundraiser at Foothills
Mall Saturday.
Special Olympics Athletes competed with their non-Special Olympics
partners in the squat, bench press and deadlift. Some notable lifts
were made by Karyl Kant of Maryville, with an 88-pound bench press and
a 148-pound deadlift. Special Olympics Athlete Paul Myers, also of
Maryville, lifted 143 in the bench and 281 in the deadlift.
Myers' partner, Blaise Smock of the Alcoa High soccer team, lifted
154 in the bench and 286 in the deadlift. Partner
Chris Howerton, representing Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, lifted
290 in the squat, 231 in the bench and 297 in the Deadlift.
Partner Jesse Zabal, there for the Maryville College volleyball team,
lifted 110 in the squat, 77 in the bench and 143 in the deadlift.
Partner Jamie Smith, representing the Maryville College softball team,
benched 77 and deadlifted 143.
